Hey there! My name is Surintan and I'm a freelance graphic designer. I have been doing graphic design since 2008, and some of my work includes designing posters, flyers, brochures, banners, buntings, wedding albums, logos, app layout and app icons. Besides these, I also work on concept requests and enhancing photos.
Below are some samples of my work. If you want to request for some of my work or give me a design project, you can contact me via the contact form (click on the ‘+’ above) or email me directly at surintandesigns@gmail.com.
On a side note, do contact me if you want to re-use any of my designs and do include in the source too. Hours were spent on some work, so crediting the designer would be really appreciated.
I was recently working on various new photo manipulations. Thought that this one would be a great addition here. The original photo is shown in the bottom left corner.
I tried Googling for the original photographer of this picture to credit him/ her, but to no avail. Anyways, thanks Mr/Ms Photographer!
Out of boredom, I create my own background sometimes. This one fits my computer perfectly with 1366 x 768 resolution. If you ask me, what was I thinking when designing this; I was thinking of 'the.future' *insert background music*.
For this design, the client requested for a plank with his name embedded on it. He specifically wanted a 3D wood effect.
Of course, in the picture above, instead of his name, I replaced it with mine.
Watched the movie, got a little inspiration.... and wallah!
Don't you just hate it when your camera doesn't capture pictures properly under low-light conditions.
This is me, at Legoland Malaysia. Don't ask about that expression, long story. This picture was taken via my cell phone (Why does the picture quality always turns out bad when you ask someone to snap a picture of you?). I guess it's kinda obvious that this wasn't how it looked like in real life. After few editing, I was able to achieve better image quality.
Initially, I wanted to make the skull to look as scary as possible. Then, after playing around with colours, I decided to add a little life into poor Mr. Not Understood.
My sister was given a homework to design Form 3 History text book cover. Don't ask why, I'm still wondering the same thing myself. Anyways, she came to me for help, and this is the final product. I didn't use any government logos, as there may be some copyright infringement issues later.
For the benefit of those who are wondering what 'Form 3' is, let me give you a very brief summary about our Malaysian education system:
When you're 7 years old, you're officially qualified to register at any public school. Some parents I know enroll their kids when they're 6 years old. But generally, 7 years old is the norm. So, when you first enter school, you're Standard 1. Every year, you increase a 'standard' until you finally reach Standard 6. This is when you sit for a major exam, UPSR (Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah; primary school achievement test). This exam is huge deal, especially when you're in Standard 6. This year (2014) will be the last year students sit for their UPSR examination. I'm not really too sure about the new system next year. These six years of education is your 'Primary Education'. After finishing your primary school, you're automatically qualified to advance to secondary school. It's officially called as 'Secondary Education'.
Now, students need to study for 5 years in secondary school. So, that's Form 1 when you're 13 years old, and all the way to Form 5, when you're 17 years old. Secondary school is split to two; lower secondary and upper secondary. First three years, you're at lower secondary, and then upper secondary during your last two years. The picture you see above is a homework for a Form 3 student.
Anyways, you sit for another major exam when you're at Form 3, PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah; lower secondary evaluation), where the results will place you in a particular stream; either science stream or arts stream. Plus, instead of choosing those streams, there's also an alternative of technical and vocational stream. I'll not go into the details of these streams, there's a whole another world there. This year (2014), PMR will be replaced by school based assessment system. I do not know much details about this system yet, but what I read about is; students will be assessed based on their academic and non-academic achievement.
During their upper secondary days, that is in Form 4 and Form 5, students will be preparing themselves for a major examination, SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia; Malaysia certificate of education). This exam really is a huge deal. Results from this exam (even SPM trial results) will determine scholarships and placement in universities or in matriculation.
Did I say brief overview just now? I guess I got a little carried away. You can find the primary school subject details and secondary school subject details in the hyperlink attached.
It's a rare sight to see the highway not filled with cars on a workday, especially LDP (Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong). Took this photo with my cell phone to prove that miracles do exist.
This photo was taken when the skies were a little cloudy. One of my friend said it looked a little like NFS poster. I pimped the colours a little to add them feels.
For those who are not familiar with LDP, its probably one of the busiest highway in the Klang Valley (Maybe not as bad as Jalan Kuching or Federal Highway.). Trust me, I know. I use this road almost everyday to work. It stretches for about 40km, but my route is only from Kepong to Damansara; about 12km. 12km which would sometimes take me plus or minus 45 minutes to get to my destination. If I leave home any later than 7.10am, I'm gonna have a bad morning. Accidents makes it worst; doesn't matter if the accident is on my lane, or the opposite lane.... surprise surprise.
Traffic is especially bad during peak hours (7.00am - 9.00am & 5.30pm - 8.00pm; time varies a little from time to time). Plus, thanks to 1 Utama shopping mall, you can expect major traffic at night. I'm talking about the lane you're at when 1 Utama is on your right hand side. The traffic will be clogged on the left side of the road, just under the flyover.
Having said all that, life is not that bad all the time. During any major national holidays, you can expect better traffic. No, not at 1 Utama's lane. That's always bad.
The picture above was taken from the top of the pedestrian bridge, opposite Damansara Uptown.
This is one of my first design, when I first started learning graphic design. This old design of mine then became my Facebook banner for a while ;-)
